Charlotte FC Exit Interview: McKinze Gaines

Thanks so much for being a paid subscriber to Soccer Sheet. As a Christmas treat, I’m happy to share our first ever “exit interview” with Charlotte FC forward McKinze Gaines.

Gaines was drafted from Austin FC, his hometown club, by Charlotte FC in the 2021 Expansion Draft held on December 14, 2021. For two years, including the Crown’s inaugural season, Gaines made over 40 appearances for Charlotte FC across competitions.

On October 30, Charlotte FC announced they declined their contract option for McKinze Gaines. However, on December 14, 2023 Nashville SC announced they had acquired the rights to Gaines from Charlotte in exchange for a second-round MLS SuperDraft pick.
