Exclusive: Patrick Agyemang on his Second USMNT Call-up
The Charlotte FC striker speaks with Soccer Sheet about being called up again, USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino's confidence in his abilities, and what Ghana's National Team is missing out on.

After Patrick Agyemang was called up for U.S. Men’s National Team duty for a second time this year, Soccer Sheet’s Sam Spencer spoke with the young striker about what the call-up means for his career, and what he’s working on as he competes with Norwich City’s Josh Sargent and the Vancouver Whitecaps’ Brian White for the starting striker role.
Earlier in the week, when I asked Agyemang about what it would be like to compete against another striker Dean Smith had coached (Sargent), he told me he doesn’t think about it that way.
“I don't really talk too much in that regards about who I'm competing against [for a role on the same team],” Agyemang told Soccer Sheet. “Obviously, when I'm there, it's gonna be [about] what I have to do and what I have to deal with, and that's to just fight for my spot in [the USMNT] to get minutes. So, I don't really try to worry too much about that now, ‘cause right now I gotta focus on what I'm doing here with [Charlotte FC], and I'm focused on Saturday for the win.”
After Charlotte FC’s match against FC Cincinnati tonight, Agyemang will leave for the USMNT camp in California. As we previously reported, the USMNT will take on Panama in the CONCACAF Nations League Semifinals in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 20, and then play in either the Championship or the third place match on Sunday, March 23. Either way, Agyemang (and teammate Tim Ream) will miss Charlotte FC’s March 22 home match against the San Diego Earthquakes.

Why go paid? We go after the stories no one else goes after, and all of our soccer content is original: no remixes of other reporters’ work, no AI-generated listicles, just old-fashioned long-form journalism with some great photographers on our team.
For example: Soccer Sheet was the only local publication at Agyemang’s USMNT debut, and next week we’ll be the only Carolinas publication with full coverage of Carolinas teams in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. It’s not cheap to continue to deliver quality coverage and build our soccer community, so we hope you’ll support our work today.
