Charlotte Independence in the Semifinals
The Jacks have advanced to the semifinals of the first-ever USL Cup tournament. They will play Forward Madison in Wisconsin tomorrow, and if they advance, they will play the winner of the other semifinal match between Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC and Union Omaha.
Should both Omaha and Charlotte win, the Independence will host the cup final at American Legion Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 28.
The Jacks have a real opportunity to add up to three pieces of hardware to their trophy case this fall: the Jägermeister Cup, the League One Player’s Shield (awarded to the team with the best regular season record), and the USL League One playoff championship trophy.
Any one of the three titles would be the first for the ten-year-old club. Charlotte lost to North Carolina FC in penalty kicks in last year’s championship match in Cary, before NCFC moved up a tier to USL Championship.
Charlotte is currently second on the League One table, tied for the most points with Union Omaha. Omaha is in first place due to the head-to-head tiebreaker.
